GOAL

My main goal for Burlington is to see the city progress in all areas of responsibility. For that to happen, we need to change the way Burlington is being run. We need to make changes in Senior Support, Road Safety, Community Diversity, Taxes, Affordable Housing, Transportation, Environment, Municipal Services and Investing in Technology.

Supporting Seniors

Over 25% of our Burlington population are above 65 years of age with unique challenges of mobility and accessibility concerns, more medical visits, less income, and transitioning out of their own homes. I would partner with the region or province to properly use the available grants or programs offered to keep the free bus service for seniors, increase accessible transportation options, make senior activities free and subsidize housing options. I would also look to partnering with other governments to provide more home care services to allow seniors to remain in their own homes for longer.

Road and Sidewalk Maintenance

Road and sidewalk safety needs to be improved. There are too many potholes or uneven pavements which can damage cars or bicycles leading to accidents. Broken sidewalks can cause injury to pedestrians or anyone using mobility aids, scooters, skateboards, etc. I would look at the current plan of which streets are being repaved, timelines and cost. Also, we need to look at how frequently tree branches are being trimmed. Branches near electrical wires are dangerous for pedestrians and motorists, especially during storms. Maintenance must include proper grass trimming and weed control. Timely snow removal is another area that needs improvement. Residents should not be cut off during heavy snowfall.

Road maintenance plan and budget need to be reviewed for cost effectiveness and prioritization. All these services should already be included in our municipal budget, and I want to ensure that existing funds are being used appropriately.

Recognizing Diversity

As Burlington continues to grow, I believe we must do more to support our diverse and multicultural population that makes our city so special. With new families arriving from around the world and many people relocating here from the GTA, our numbers are increasing. Yet we still don’t have enough spaces where communities can gather, celebrate traditions, or practice their faith.

In the 2021 census, nearly 36,000 residents identified as visible minorities, with South Asians making up the largest group. To better reflect and support our rich diversity, I would offer more inclusive places of worship — including a Hindu temple, which we currently don’t have — as well as expanded Gurdwaras, Mosques, and other religious venues. Residents of all faiths and cultures should feel welcomed and respected within our community.

TAXES

Another area that we need to look at is our taxes. Burlington property tax increased in 2026 by 4.49%.

We know taxes are essential to keeping the services that we have in the city. Your taxes pay for government staff, departments like Planning and Approvals, Environmental Services, Road and Traffic Operations, Winter Control, Recreation and Culture, etc. I want to first understand how our tax dollars are being spent. It’s important to see where we can cut costs, reduce waste, streamline processes and find better ways of conducting business without losing necessary services or benefits for each of you.

We can explore alternatives funding sources such as regional and provincial programs and grants, new revenue sources and optimizing our investment strategy, rather than using our own tax dollars. We must explore those options and use them wisely.

Affordable Housing

With a widening gap between income and cost of living expenses, affordability is top of mind, especially around housing. The growing population and larger size families, there is a need for a variety of housing options, such as duplexes, triplexes, low-rise residential buildings. I would work with developers to find a balance between high-rise condominiums, detached houses and missing middle housing, including making policy changes to support a dedicated amount to affordable housing for low-income families. At the same time, we must review our current infrastructure capacity to support high density housing.

Protecting the Environment

To protect the environment, we must support converting to green technology. We need to increase our fleet of electric buses and also change other city vehicles to electric. I will make sure these vehicles are being used effectively to cover the cost of conversion. All new housing and transportation projects should include mandatory use of sustainable materials and alternative sources of energy. This is not only better for the climate but also cost efficient for residents in the long run. City landscaping and maintenance should also use more renewable and long-lasting resources. I would collaborate with Halton region to review our current composting, recycling and garbage collection programs to include more residences and businesses in decreasing their contribution to landfill waste.

Improving Municipal Services

There have been complaints about the long wait times to get building permits for construction projects, up to 2yrs in some cases. Builders are losing money, being charged more interest on their loans while waiting for approvals. The way these approvals are being handled needs to be changed now. Residents are also complaining about other services like snow removal, park maintenance and bus routes. A review is mandatory to ensure our municipal taxes are being spent appropriately without mismanagement.

Youth, Education and Jobs

I would also partner with technical colleges and universities to build campuses within Burlington to establish a new base for professionals, IT and skilled trades. The flow of youth and businesses to Burlington will generate revenue from taxes and open up opportunities for new jobs. This will support growth of our local economy and strengthen our infrastructure including the well-being of our community.
